We arrived at Stonecutters Ridge on May 5th to find the course shrouded in fog. Not quite a pea soup but enough for some players to claim that they hit their first drives out of sight.

This year’s event saw a record field of 123 players face the starter and things got underway with a minimum of fuss. Thankfully, the weather soon began to improve, and we were rewarded with a magnificent day for golf.

The course may have been playing a little heavy after the recent rains, but the fairways and greens were in great shape and a credit to the ground staff. A few tricky pin placements proved to be a challenge on the slick greens, but they were rolling true if you could pick the right line.

This year we were able to utilise MiScore for the first time, but manual score cards were still needed for those who did not have the App. Unfortunately, many cards were not completed correctly and this led to some issues and a short delay in compiling the final results, but we got there in the end.

After an enjoyable round of golf, we were once again treated to a delicious lunch before the presentations got underway. Winner of the best scratch score was Stephen Hall from Forster Tuncurry with 75 strokes for 38 points. Winner of the best nett score was Stuart Duncan from Port Kembla with 35 points. Both winners received cash prizes and Stephen Hall’s name will be added to the Jim Earl Trophy.

In the 65-68 age division the scratch winner was Geoff Morris from Beverly Park, while Andrew Mitchell from Hawks Nest had the best nett score. In the 69-72 age division Graham Eves from Bankstown had the best scratch score and Kevin Sutherland from Gosford was the nett winner.

The 73-79 age division was led home by Ian Bamford from Muirfield with the best scratch score and Warren Marsh from Cronulla got the nett prize. The 80 and over division may have been the smallest, but Errol Chivers from Hawks Nest showed he’s still got the game off a handicap of 11.

The result sheet of all prize winners, including the four NTP’s can be found here, under RESULTS.

All the divisional and NTP winners received gift vouchers from Golf World who generously supported the event on short notice after our previous corporate sponsor let us down. A big thank you must go to them for their generosity and vision.

Our thanks also go to NSW Golf and ICON Cancer Centre for their ongoing sponsorship, and to MGI for the Rangefinder raffle prize they donated.

And finally, we extend our gratitude to Stonecutters Ridge and their staff for hosting the event and presenting the course in great condition for us to enjoy.

A date and venue for 2026 is yet to be decided and will be advised in due course. We look forward to another great event next year. See you there.

On behalf of the NSW SSGA Committee,

Steve Turner

Championship Coordinator
