WHAT DOES THE SUPER SENIOR PENNANT HAVE IN COMMON WITH
THE PRESIDENTS CUP?
We, the Committee, am sure most golfers would have witnessed the Presidents Cup held at Royal Melbourne in early December and what a gripping event it was and one which went right down to the 18th hole on the final day.
The interesting thing about this event, is that it brings together twenty four players from eight different regions of the world, who at the beginning of the week are individual players, but by the end of the competition, have been moulded into team players.
We witnessed not only the passion of the American team and their will to win, but the incredible intensity and effort of the Internationals, particularly in the team events (Four-Ball & Foursomes) held over the first three days.
So, what has this got to do with the Super Senior Pennant? Well, actually quite a number of things!
Firstly, both are team events made up of individual players, albeit that Super Seniors is for male golfers over 65.
Secondly, both events are Match Play contests.
Thirdly, even though both competitions are played for high stakes, it is the fantastic spirit in which both events are played which stands out.
Fourthly and most importantly, is the camaraderie that develops during the competition, not only amongst members of a team but also with the opposition team members.
So, if you are keen to participate in our competition, which is held from August through October each year and your Club is not yet part of our event, talk to your Club Captain/GM or Match Committee member and encourage them to enter a team for 2020, entries for which open on January 20, 2020.
